Midsummer in Sweden

The yearly huge Midsummer-celebration just passed in Sweden. Friday was midsummer-night and saturday was midsummer-day. Midsummer includes many traditions - such as dance, songs and activities - but for people in my generation the main event is partying!

I arrived to the coastal city Grebbestad friday night with some friends, where we met up with our mutual friends. Our friends had already set up the tent and our little camp-ground, and was ready to start drinking and just having a good time. Unfortunately the weather wasn't that good, and we even got some rain, so we hurried to citycenter to get something to eat, meet up with more people, get a few drinks and perhaps go dancing some.. The night was fantastic! We had such an awesome time. Some of the words to describe the night could be: drinks, delicious food, scandinavian clash (swedish, norwegian and danish), puke, laughter, hugs, love.

Saturday we woke up around 11:00 in the morning, had the first drink/beer around 11:02, which really set the tone of the day. We basically drank non-stop for 15 hours. The day was spent by laying around in the sun, talking, laughing and just relaxing from the previous night. We went to dinner, was thrown out of the restaurant after singing a danish drinking-song loudly to/"with" some other guest, went to a club, went to a tavern/bar and then back to the club where they wouldn't let some of our group in because they were too drunk, continued to a different restaurant/bar and I ended up going back to the camp with my drunk friend - he definitely needed some support to make it there, lol. When we came back to the camp my throat suddenly started to itch and get swollen. The rest of my body started itching, and suddenly it got harder to breath... My favorite Sweed called the hospital and explained the situation, and was adviced to go see a doctor as soon as possible because it made breathing hard for me. As neither of us couldn't possibly drive a car even if we tried I had to pay a taxi back and forth, but it was all worth it - of course. When I arrived the doctor checked me out - asked me what I had eaten/been drinking, listened to my lungs, looked down my throat - and ended up giving me 17 pills!! Luckily they worked, I got some pills to go, and returned to camp. The massive dose of pills made me sleep hardcore. Some words to describe the day: sun, smiles, music, dance, drinks, shots, the emergency room, tent and the danish word "hygge"!

Sunday we slept in, started packing all of our stuff, cleaning the ground we'd been on, and was picked up and driven back to Ed. In Ed we drove Rebecca to the train-station and she went back to Denmark. Desiree, Richard and John went with me home, we had some food, sat on a blanket on the grass, talked about the weekend and relaxed. Afterwards I watched a movie with my friend Rasmus.

So in short: Midsummer was celebrated in style, with laughter, smiles and the awesome people I love.

Hope all of you out there enjoyed your weekend!
